Walking is a great way to improve your fitness. So get out your pedometer and get ready to start walking. If you don’t have a pedometer, they're easy to find at any sporting goods store.

Follow these simple directions to start walking and adding up your steps:

  1. Set the pedometer to zero by pushing the reset button.
  2. Clip the pedometer to the waistband of your pants so it can start counting steps. Keep it clipped to the same side each day.
  3. Wear the pedometer all day, including when you exercise. Do not wear the pedometer when you are bathing or sleeping.
  4. Download and print the chart below to track your steps.
