Laura Wilkinson was born with a determination to be the best at whatever she did. So when she grew too tall to compete professionally in gymnastics, she switched from the balance beam to the diving board. And after her first dive at age 15, she never looked back.

She is the only female platform diver who has achieved the 3 coveted titles of Olympic Champion (2000), World Cup Champion (2004), and World Champion (2005). Not to mention being named USA Diving Athlete of the Year—3 times.

But her many victories weren’t without injury. While training, she broke 3 bones in her foot just 3 months before the Sydney 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Left with only a 2-month recovery, she was forced to practice her dives mentally, and re-entered the pool just 3 weeks before the competition. But Laura easily qualified. And even though she had to wear a special shoe to climb the diving board ladders, she went on to win the Olympic gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

And with all of Laura’s achievements, it may be hard to believe that she suffers from acid reflux disease. Her doctor prescribed ACIPHEX to treat her heartburn and other symptoms associated with acid reflux disease—all of which were unrelated to exercise. She now takes ACIPHEX daily to manage her condition, drinks less caffeine, and eats spicy foods in moderation. When asked which symptom besides heartburn she experienced the most, she replied, "It was regurgitation*—big time."

Laura has the determination to face any set back head on—the stress of competition, injuries, and the symptoms of acid reflux disease. She’s a true champion.

Right now she’s training for another chance to represent the United States at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Her next big feat will be the U.S. Olympic Team Trials—Diving, set for June 21-22, 2008, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
